Get ready to kick off summer the right way at the Chicago Summer Sizzler, the first stop in Defender’s 3-part Summer Sizzler Series! Taking place June 19–21 in Chicago, this high-energy event brings together 10U–18U AA, A, and B teams for a 4-game minimum at Seven Bridges Ice Arena and Center Ice of DuPage. With fast-paced competition and championship aspirations on the line, this is where teams come to set the tone for their summer.
There’s no better place to start than Chicago in June—when the city comes alive with perfect weather, lakefront energy, and nonstop activity. When teams aren’t on the ice, families can explore Millennium Park, stroll along Navy Pier, take in the views from Willis Tower Skydeck, relax on Lake Michigan beaches, or experience some of the best food in the country—from deep dish pizza to iconic local spots. It’s the ultimate blend of elite hockey and big-city summer vibes.
As Part 1 of the Summer Sizzler Series, Chicago sets the stage before the action heads east to the Jersey Shore for a true beach-and-hockey experience, and concludes in Hershey, PA —where competition peaks alongside one of the country’s top family destinations. Round Robin with Playoffs (Minimum of 4 games). Teams may play one or more round robin games DAY 1, one or more round robin games on DAY 2 with consolation/semi-finals and championship games on the final day. NOTE: Semi-Final rounds and/or consolation games are not guaranteed.
Divisional allocation is based on USA Hockey roster/age group classification for the upcoming season. However, the tournament operations staff may adjust placements to fit individual team competitiveness on a case-by-case basis.
Tournament game schedule will be released 7-10 days prior to the event start date.
Teams must arrive and be available in the local area by the day before the tournament begins and be prepared to play at 7:00 AM local time on the first day of the tournament. Departure should be scheduled on or after the final tournament day, with final games expected to finish by roughly 5:00 PM local time.
